Rose’s POV

“How dare you come in here, Rose?” she snapped.

I looked away from her. “I was trying to…”

She dragged me by the arm and before I could comprehend anything that was going on, she hit me across the face in a barely conceived rage. I felt my teeth clamp painfully with my tongue, and blood filled my mouth. It was acidic and awful.

I swallowed the lump in my throat in pain. This was so unfair to me, and I wish that there would have been a way to retaliate and give this woman a taste of her medicine, but there wasn’t and that brought tears to my eyes.

I massaged the slap and felt like the whole world was after me at that moment and I didn’t like any of what was going on. I hated being weak and I had never been known as weak in my life, but here I was forced to tolerate all this.

I took a deep breath and struggled to control my emotions. This was going to be the worst day of my life, and I was so sad but I won’t give up. There must be
