Rose’s POV

I was nervous, more nervous than I thought I’d be. Elise had been through a lot recently, and I wanted her to feel safe and welcome.

I’m a sucker for trying too hard to make people feel like they mattered, like they belong and I was more than glad that I am being there for Elise.

But introducing her to my friends felt like a big step, like we were moving from one chapter of our lives into another.

I took a deep breath, trying to shake off the curious sparks as we walked down the path to the meeting spot.

Elise walked beside me, her steps slow. She didn’t say much, just kept her eyes on the ground, like she was lost in her thoughts.

I could tell she was unsure, maybe even scared, and that made me more bold to make this introduction go smoothly.

“Hey, you okay?” I asked, trying to catch her eye.

She looked up at me, giving a small nod. “Yeah, just…I don’t know what to expect.” she said, still trying to feel comfortable.
