Alpha Kanen’s POV

I couldn’t shake the feeling that something had shifted in me ever since Jacklin showed up.

His visit was unexpected, unannounced—just like him. Always appearing out of nowhere, destroying things I thought I’d put to rest.

I sat in my office, staring at the papers scattered across my desk, but my mind was miles away, lost in the conversation we had.

“Kanen,” Jacklin had said, his voice cool and sharp, “you’ve always been the one in charge. The one everyone looks up to. But how long do you think you can keep this up? How long before you slip, before everything you’ve built comes crashing down?” It was a flashback I just jolted back from.

I had tried to brush off his words, tried to convince myself that they didn’t matter. But they did.

They crawl in my head, creeping into my thoughts when I least expect it. What if he was right? What if I wasn’t strong enough, smart enough, to keep everything together? I thought to myself.<
