Alpha Kanen’s POV

The silence between us and the creature grew with each passing second.

The creature’s yellow eyes glow in the darkness, waiting for me to make the choice it demanded.

The silence of the Woods of Knowledge wrapped around us, and it felt like the trees themselves were watching, waiting for the sacrifice it had demanded.

But I wasn’t going to let that happen. I couldn’t.

“No,” I said, stepping in front of Raph, making sure my voice was firm. “I won’t sacrifice him. There has to be another way.” I was very angry at this point.
