"Cinderella, it's almost twelve," Kaden's icy voice cut through the air, his silhouette striking even in the low light. "We should get going before you turn into a pumpkin."

"Kaden?" Lincoln's eyes went wide as he darted his gaze between us. "You're that guy---" he finally realized, his surprise evident.

"Why are you here?" I asked, crossing my arms against the chilly breeze. "I thought you were joking about not staying out late!"

"Josephine asked me to pick you up, Candice," he replied calmly. "Now, let’s head out."

"Don't treat me like a child, Kaden!" I shot back. "I'm not going with you. I’ll leave when I want!"

"When did your bodyguard show up, sweetcheeks?" Lincoln sneered.

Kaden ignored him and sighed. "If you’re not ready to go home, then let’s at least get you inside," he said, taking my hand and pulling me along. "The party's inside, not out here in the dark."
