Chapter 20. Can’t Ignore Her Commands

Lex’s POV

“Did you find her?” My mother’s voice chimed in my ears. My gaze shot to the door—there she stood, regal and beautiful as ever.

I hadn’t even heard her come in.

I shook my head, frustration and concern knotting in my stomach. Dropping my pen on the table, I gave up on trying to focus on the reports. The worry etched on her face only deepened my own sense of urgency.

She closed the door behind her and crossed the room, gracefully taking a seat. She folded her hands in her lap, eyes fixed intently on me.

“It’s been five days, Lex,” she said quietly. “Time is running out. If you’ve mated with her, she could be pregnant, and we need to act quickly before things spiral out of control.”

I took a deep breath, the weight of her words settling heavily on my shoulders. I knew what she was implying—my mate could end up like my mother, raising a child alone. I didn’t want that. I didn’t want history to repeat itself.

“I know,” I sighed,
