Chapter 40

Summer POV

Derek took Lettie into his arms.

“This is my fault. I-I don’t know what happened. I couldn’t shift.”

Derek eyed me with a raised brow.

“Long story… but thank you.”

“Don’t thank me. Lucky for us, Rocco wanted to stop by a bakery.”

“And you made fun of me,” Rocco puffed.

I clutched my head as an intense ringing went off.

“Summer, are you okay?” Derek asked.

My vision blurred, and all I heard was the ringing sound. Couldn’t they hear the sound? Derek split in two, and the ground wobbled.

“Mate…” a ghost-like voice said. “Where are you?”

I shook my head. I wanted the ringing to stop before it blew my head open.

“Please stop,” I whispered almost helplessly.

A cold hand landed on my back. I looked up to see Rocco staring at me with concern in his eyes. The ringing went as quickly as it had come. Well, that was unexpected and painful.
