As I turned to face my friends, they all seemed absorbed in their conversations, feigning obliviousness to the tension that now enveloped me.

“Bye, Calista. See you later! We’ll catch up with our escorts,” they excused themselves in unison, leaving me feeling unexpectedly isolated with the three men who had suddenly become the focus of my evening.
