Calista’s POV
His tight grip against my wrist made my eyes widen as I stared at him. What had I just done?
I laughed nervously. “You’re joking,” I said, gulping. “I’m so sorry I asked you that. Maybe I was a little drunk at the masquerade—”
“I saw and observed all of your moves, Calista,” he interrupted, pulling me closer. I found myself staring into his darkened eyes, which had softened unexpectedly.
“What are you talking about?” I asked, my voice filled with nervousness.
“I saw how you denied everything, even the wine,” he laughed.
My cheeks turned red, and I looked down, feeling the sting of my embarrassing lie.
“Well—”
As Draven spoke, his grip on his pen tightened noticeably, his knuckles whitening. “And I wonder what you were doing with Zane,” he cut me off abruptly, his voice low and controlled, though I sensed an underlying tension that made me uneasy.
