Chapter 49. The Story

Breakfast had to be enjoyed by Maria alone, her eyes looking towards the chair Chris usually sat on.

"Apparently he didn't come home all night, if he continues to take care of that child, when else will he have time for me?"

Maria took the glass filled with water and drank it.

Her two hands returned to chopping the food on her plate. Bite after bite, Maria directed it to her mouth. But her hand movements stopped when she received a phone call from Tommy.

Her annoyance went somewhere, and a faint smile appeared on her pretty face. Maria cleared her throat, cleared her throat, then pressed the green button that appeared on her phone screen.

"Hello." She said in a soft voice.
