The next morning, I woke up before Kaelan did.

“Wake up, Kaelan,” I called eagerly as I watched his chest rise and fall while he slept peacefully.

“Hmmm what?” he mumbled through sleep.

“Have you forgotten? We have to visit the priestess today.” I was eager to seek solutions to our problems. If truly Seraphina cursed Kaelan, there must be a way out.

“Can’t we go later?” Kaelan seemed to enjoy his sleep so much and didn’t want to get out of bed yet.

“No. We have to go now,” I answered and tickled his toes until he got out of bed.

We got dressed quickly and headed to the temple.

“Are you ready to do whatever it takes?” I asked, searching his face as we approached the entrance of the temple.

Kaelan squeezed his forehead. “I don’t have a choice, do I?”

I frowned. “That’s not an answer.”

He looked at me and softened his gaze. “If it gives you peace of mind, then yes. I’ll do whatever it takes.”

I felt relieved
