Later, as the festivities continued, I found Everly standing by a window, her gaze fixed on the moonlit forest beyond.
“They’re right, aren’t they?” she said, her voice barely a whisper. “About the heir. I was looking forward to carrying your pup.”
“It’s not their concern,” I replied, my voice flat.
“But it is yours,” she said, turning to face me. “And mine. We’re mates, Kaelan. We should be planning for the future, building a life together.”
“The future is uncertain,” I said, my gaze hardening. “The rogues…”
