“Rhodes,” Rafael said finally, breaking the silence. “This isn’t your fault.”

“Isn’t it?” Rhodes asked, his voice hollow. “I told him at dinner that we were done having kids. I made that decision without even consulting him. What kind of mate does that?”

“The kind who was making casual conversation and didn’t realize the implications,” Rafael said. “You didn’t know Troy was pregnant. You didn’t know he’d overheard that conversation with me. You were just talking, not making declarations.”
