Chapter 57. A Rivalry
Marcel drove me to work and walked me inside. It was thirty minutes until we opened so no one was around other than Mindy and Tess. Mindy loved seeing us together.
“I’ll be here before you get off,” Marcel said after planting a kiss on my cheek.
I smiled just as Tess came into the eating area.
“Marcel,” she said with a sigh.
He grimaced. “See you later, Paris.”
“Wait, we have a lot to talk about,” Tess said.
“We have nothing to talk about,” he grumbled.
I grabbed his hand. “You have a lot to talk about. Don’t be stubborn.”
“Then I have nothing nice to say.”
I believed him. He wasn’t going to stay but I wondered how long he would be until he was ready to face the past head-on. Not anytime soon, I thought as he walked out of the restaurant with his hands shoved into his black pockets.
“He’s being ridiculous,” Tess sighed and folded her arms over her chest.
