Ruby’s POV

My car swerved off the road, the sudden impact sending a jolt of adrenaline through me. Beth was startled awake in the passenger seat, gripping the dashboard,

“Rue, Rue, Rue!”

Panic surged as I fought to regain control, my mind racing. What had just hit me? I could feel Ria’s presence beside me.

I straightened the car and glanced in the rearview mirror, half-expecting to see whatever had crashed into me. My breath caught when I didn’t see a thing. Had it been an animal? A person?

“Are you okay?” Beth asked.

“Yes, and you?”

“I’m good. But what was that?”

“I…I don’t know. It came out of nowhere,” I replied, my voice shaky.

“Pull over,” I did, and we got out of the car. The night air was cool, but it felt heavy with an unnerving tension. Ael’s car pulled over next to us, and they rushed to us.

“Are you guys okay?” They hugged us.
