Ruby’s POV

“How do you know she was kidnapped?” Hayes asked, his voice rising an octave. It was dangerous. Henry and Kyle froze for a moment, swallowing nervously.

“I told them,” the witch, whom I hadn’t seen yet, said.

“And how do you know that, wench, I mean witch?” Hayes gritted. “Are you perhaps working with the enemy?”

“No, yes… but not anymore,” she confessed, casting her gaze to the floor. I could sense that Hayes was about to erupt, so I held his arms to calm him.

“Elaborate,” Zylon demanded.

She stepped into the room and positioned herself next to Henry. “I used to work for the rogue king when Henry found me.”

“Used?” I asked. The witch looked at me for the first time.

“Yes.”

“And I didn’t precisely find her. The rogue king sent her to approach me after he learned who Ruby was and my intentions toward her. He hoped she’d help break the mate bond, and when Ruby was by my side, he’d take her since my pack wasn’t as
