Chapter 153. A Consoler

When I got to the door I hesitated for a while. I really wished I didn’t have to do this but more important than whatever feelings I had for anyone was the safety of my pack, of my home. That was what mattered the most.

I nodded to the guards at the entrance and the door was opened for me. As soon as I walked in Lovette stood up from the side of my mother’s bed where she was sitting and my mother turned to look at me. She was lying down on the bed and it seemed like she had just finished eating.

“Ryder……..” my mom started to say.

“I need a word with Lovette. Come with me.” I turned and walked out. My mother was trying to tell me something before I left the room but I didn’t pay her any attention. Then she mindlinked me.

“Stop right there Ryder.”

I stopped walking. I turned to look at her and she seemed……..pissed. Lovette also stopped following me and we both turned to look at my mother.
