It was a brilliant idea, Lance thought as he sharpened his sword in his chambers. When he arrived at the castle, he decided to proceed with the coup when he sensed John's weakness. The greatest proof that John's senses were all focused in the wrong direction was when Lance arrived with his personal guard, a guard that was far too numerous. If John had been concentrated, he would have noticed how suspicious that was, but he couldn't stop thinking about his mate.

Lance laughed.

But it wasn’t just his nephew’s recklessness. Lance had planned the abduction of Sallow, which served as a great distraction for the Pack. In one fell swoop, he removed Leon, the bastard Sidorov, and by a stroke of luck, the boy Taylor had also disappeared, most likely caught up in the search for Sallow. It was a masterstroke. His initial plan was to subjugate his nephew and take the castle; afterward, the rest of his men would come to support him. Even if the clans turned again
