Chapter 13
Kelly stayed close as I left my things in a corner of the shed. She helped me by bringing a bucket of water so I could clean myself and stayed with me as we spoke about our lives. Hers, growing up on the right side of the border but starving and getting sick sporadically. Mine, growing up free, but having to deal with the brutality of the real world.
“I’ve been thinking about the werewolf you told me was the alpha’s companion all this time,” I began to say in a low tone, fearing to be heard. “Is she around here?”
Kelly poured the dirty water in the opposite corner of the shed and brought the empty bucket close to me.
“Didn’t you see her? She docked with the alpha as soon as he stepped onto these lands. He didn’t even wait for us to arrive.”
That explained why I hadn’t seen him all the way. They would probably be having fun in some wild and dirty way. I tried to ignore the weird feeling that took hold of my stomach.
