Kelly warmly rested a hand on my shoulder. “You’re not going to get hurt, Stella. The alpha is a respectable guy. Give him a chance.”

I took Kelly’s hand off my shoulder, feeling so uncomfortable with that conversation that I no longer knew how to disguise my animosity.

“It’s not that easy, Kelly. I don’t belong to this world. He clearly demonstrated that I will still have trouble being accepted, no matter how much I am with him. There’s a woman who loves him in the story, and I don’t want to take her place. What I’m feeling must be just… I don’t know what it could be.”

Kelly breathed.

“I understand what you mean, but you can’t keep hiding from everything. Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith and trust people. The alpha is kind, honest, and has been looking for a way to protect us from the witch’s curse for years. He can be a good mate to you.”
