Chapter 19
Randall spent a moment in silence, and I could swear I heard the gears in his head turning as he tried to understand my words. As much as I didn’t want to feel superior to those creatures, sometimes I needed to remember that they were experiments created in a laboratory, and that part of their evolution didn’t involve spending long hours reading books or listening to teachers who taught education and basic interpretation.
They were simply primitive.
“I didn’t understand anything of what you said.”
I opened my mouth to release a new barb, a new insult in cultured form, but then I felt something new. Deep in my heart, I felt the change. Randall’s hatred shifted to curiosity as he kept his eyes on me, and his entire pack watched us. It was the way I felt a small shock in my chest, a harmless electric current, but it made me straighten my body and want to act differently with him.
