Kelly laughed softly. She stopped talking as our walk through the trees brought us to a dirt road, where we could see a farm with no animals inside. A small blue-toned house sat in the center of the property, and Marcus’ group was just a little ahead, following Randall’s footsteps. A group behind us protected us from potential surprises.
She slowed her pace as she observed beyond the fence that marked the property. For a moment, I wondered if she was imagining what it would be like to have a humble life in the countryside, or if she wanted to know about life on the other side of the border.
