Randall closed his eyes and responded to my touch, tilting his head slightly, the way a puppy would.
“It was a warning,” he said in a cold tone, opening his eyes again. The gold of his irises seemed to be full of hatred. “They wouldn’t attack a nearby pack if they didn’t want to hit me too. I met their alpha. I knew who each of them was. This was the pack that Kelly was part of before being expelled and adopted by me. Vampires never needed to attack us in centuries of existence. There are enough animals and dumb humans to cross the border at night. They didn’t need that. They consider our blood bad. It wasn’t for food.”
I frowned, putting both hands on my lap.
