Alec POV

I couldn't sleep despite how hard I tried. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw her.

Mabel.

Standing beneath the fireworks with the ocean behind her, looking at me as though she couldn't decide whether to trust me or run.

I turned onto my back and stared at the ceiling.

This was ridiculous.

I had spent six years looking for the woman from that night. Not to relive what happened, but to apologize for the way I'd treated her that morning—for allowing Angelina to humiliate her when she was already frightened and confused.

And now she'd walked back into my life.

Somehow, finding her had been easier than knowing what to do with her now that I'd found her.
