Chapter 33. Are You Happy?
SASHA’S POV
The chaos Uncle Vincent caused sent whispers rippling through the guests. They glanced at me, assuming the guy who flipped out had something to do with me. Well, they weren’t wrong. Uncle Vincent and I are tied in ways I can’t escape.
This cliché scene, something I thought only happened in cheesy romance novels, was playing out in my life. I cringed, feeling awkward, worried, and uneasy all at once.
Sam’s dad quickly stepped in, calming the crowd and urging them to focus on the gala. An unpleasant disruption, sure. But I was a little relieved—at least it stopped Sam from kissing me. The guests also dialed back their over-the-top cheering from before.
“Sorry, Sam,” I whispered in reflex. I don’t know why I apologized. And Sam asked the same thing.
“Why are you apologizing?” he said, his voice stiff, still shaken by the broken glass now being swept up by the staff.
