Chapter 39. Last Words
SASHA’S POV
The whole drive, Sam stayed silent. I only just noticed he wasn’t his usual self—not like someone about to get married.
“Sam, I’m sorry! That was a total mess,” I said, glancing at him as he drove, but he didn’t answer right away. His mind seemed elsewhere, lost in a daydream.
“You mad, huh?” I asked again.
“Not at all. This is an emergency, Sha. Don’t overthink it—I’m just focused on driving.”
Sam was speeding. We were still in the city, but I saw the speedometer never dip below forty miles an hour.
I shut up like he asked, not wanting to distract him. Every now and then, I glanced at him, my mind on Dad’s condition.
Finally, we reached Familia Hospital, where Dad was. I jumped out of the car and ran to his room.
At the door, I thought Sam would come in with me, but he didn’t.
“Sha, you go ahead. You okay alone?” Sam asked. “I’ve got some business to handle.”
“I’m fine, Sam,” I said.
