Emmeline knew Yuna was watching her closely, scrutinizing every movement, every word.
She had to be careful—too careful.
“All the rooms around here were empty,” Yuna’s voice was probing. “Though I did notice moisture on the glass in one of the rooms. Someone had clearly just used it.”
Emmeline’s eyes lit up as if she’d just realized something. Her smile widened, and she nodded enthusiastically. “Oh, that must’ve been me!” she said, relieved. “I finished there earlier and came here for a massage.”
Yuna didn’t respond immediately. Her gaze lingered on Emmeline with her expression unreadable. It felt as though she were trying to peel back Emmeline’s layers, to uncover something she wasn’t saying.
The silence stretched between them, thick and heavy, and Emmeline fought the urge to look away. She couldn’t afford to show weakness now.
