Chapter 269
Emmeline opened her mouth to retort, but the sight of him left her breathless. The way the water clung to his body, accentuating every ridge and plane of his torso made her words catch in her throat.
“I loved snorkeling with you so much.” She words slipped out before she could stop them. Her voice was dreamy, her mind lost in the memory.
“So much that I wouldn’t even mind if I took my last breath at the bottom of the pool in your arms. It would be the best death a woman like me could have.”
Zavian’s expression darkened. “A woman like you?” His voice was low, teasing, but the intensity in his gaze made her heart stutter.
Emmeline found herself unable to look away. Her eyes traced the water droplets clinging to his lashes while her mind wandered. She didn’t notice the water creeping up to her mouth until Zavian’s hand shot out to grab her shoulder.
“Watch out, little girl!” he growled.
Emmeline blinked several times, finally snapping out of her daze
