My mother’s death had always been veiled in secrecy, and the more I dug, the more I suspected the truth was far more sinister than I’d ever considered.
Yet, I refused to give up. I couldn’t. I was convinced the answers were hidden just out of sight, waiting to be uncovered.
A sudden knock at the door snapped me out of my thoughts. Looking up in surprise, I realized I wasn’t expecting anyone. My office door was always locked, a barrier against interruptions that allowed me to concentrate.
