Mia’s POV

Bile rises in my throat as I look at Donovan standing in the doorway of Cora’s room. My hand immediately rises to my neck, trying to hide the hideous mark that mars my skin.

“Hello, Sweetheart,” Donovan says, not taking his eyes off me.

Instantly Emma is on her feet, standing between Donovan and me. “How did you get past the guards?” She demands to know.

Donovan sniffs the air around Emma, and an evil smile tugs at the corners of his lips. “Well, well, well,” Donovan says as he looks at Emma. “What do we have here? The infamous Emma Paxton.” Taking a step in Emma’s direction, Donovan smells the air again. “You do smell good.”

“Stay back,” Emma says sternly. “I will not let you hurt them again.”

With a wave of his hand, Donovan dismisses Emma’s words. “I am not here to hurt anyone,” he sneers. “I am only here to collect what is mine.”
