Chapter 59

Chantal’s POV

We put the talk that had worsened our situation on hold and went back to work to catch up. I told them everything Alyssa had instructed me to do, including the previous instructions. I even informed them that I had fabricated an explanation in their name the day before, claiming that our plan had fallen through and that I had to go to the hospital. They were outraged, but they said they understood and agreed to work with me. However, this was not always the case.

As Joanna pointed out, I tended to consume myself with being overly compassionate, risking losing my identity. I also informed them about Mateo’s and my adventures in Paris when we were there.

“You’re quite fortunate to have Mateo,” Joanna replied. As she continued, Jurelle and I exchanged a wry smile.

“I wish I had someone like him.”

“You’ve come up short in your strategy. A boyfriend like Mateo is still possible for you.”
