Chapter 39. Fake Gold Necklace
Lucien’s actions and words leave the Pearsons having some scruples about him for the first time since he came back.
Their mind goes back to the things he’s been doing since then and how different he’s been behaving. Cool, relaxed, unbothered, and full of courage.
The Lucien they knew in the past would have been shaking by now but this one here doesn’t get moved by anything.
Could it be that there is something he is hiding from them? They can’t help but wonder. However, as they peek at his cheap frayed clothes and poor state that is virtually the same as in the past, their worries vanish. Mrs. Avery crinkles her nose at him, believing she is just overthinking things. A good-for-nothing is still a good-for-nothing. She stares at Juliet and nods as a signal for her to do it.
She has so much faith that the necklace is real and Lucien is just a dumbhead.
"As much as I want to do this, I don’t think it is necessary," Juliet suddenly says.
