Chapter 28. First Kiss
Kate's POV
"This one costs $16.00, trust me, your friend will like it," she bragged, folding the umbrella. "It's spring, and as you know, it rains a lot. Just take it to him."
I sat in my wheelchair, looking at the hundreds of umbrellas, and all I could pick was an expensive one. I needed to get it for Matt before we met again. Maybe I would pass by his house and leave it there.
"Alright, I'll pay for this," I said, handing over my last coins from my purse. "Thank you."
It was my last coin. I had spent all of my money on food and unnecessary stuff like this umbrella. I even got myself a new phone, which I now wanted to return to get my money back. There was no point in using an expensive phone and starving as a result. I should have thought better.
Reaching the main road, I made a move and stopped. I was afraid to step in. Cassandra had gone to school, and Mom didn't even know I was coming out.
A good Samaritan just pushed me from behind to cross
