Chapter 55. Ruthless: The Singing

The night was chilly with the wind sweeping the rain across the land. Max was fast asleep on the couch. He had a tough argument with Helen about sleeping on the same bed with her but he wanted to sleep alone on the couch and not on the same bed with her. Something about the night didn’t feel right. It was as if something is out there in the dark woods in search of victims.

Max could hear a voice desperately crying for help. At first, he thought he was dreaming but the desperate call and cry for help continued.

“Help!”

The desperate cry was followed by a full-fisted knock on the wooden door of the cabin. It was very dark inside the log cabin--for a moment Max thought he was dreaming. The weather and the heavy downpour are perfect for a good night's rest.
