Chapter 40. We Quit

Zac was annoyed, but at the same time, he understood where Anna was coming from. “Fine,” he muttered under his breath as he walked past her and headed for the elevator. 

She rolled her eyes and followed him until they were standing in front of the closed doors. She pressed for the highest floor and then the automated doors almost opened immediately. When they got in, they were alone. 

She was also annoyed. She did not like that the guy was not taking this seriously. This was a threat to her life, for crying out loud! “I don’t like how you’re acting like it was a love note that I got.” 

“Anna, don’t start. Can we just get this over with?” 

“There it is again. Why are you not considerate? You’re supposed to be my boyfriend!” She raised her tone and turned fully towards him, her heart thumping in her chest as adrenaline rushed through her veins. 

“I am!” He shouted back as his eyes bulged. It was at the same time that the automated doors
