If she flinched, if she showed fear, it was over.
She was so close to death that she could taste it.
The man studied her, his dark eyes scanning every inch of her face like he was searching for a lie. The pressure of the barrel didn’t ease.
“Who told you about Lorenzo?” His voice was low, measured—too controlled.
Anna swallowed hard. “My mother.”
His eyes narrowed. “Your mother?”
“Yes.” She exhaled shakily. “She used to know people in Vito’s circle. She told me to come here, said Lorenzo might help me.”
His jaw twitched, his grip on the gun unwavering. “What’s your name, and what exactly do you need help with?”
Anna hesitated. “My name is Anna. Anna Hall.” She hadn’t expected to explain herself to some nameless guard. She had counted on getting straight to Lorenzo.
