Chapter 129. Ultimatums Are Given

Victor studied her for a long moment, his gaze piercing, unreadable. 

Then he sighed, tilting his head slightly as if he were speaking to a child who just didn’t understand the rules of the game.

“I’ll make it simple for you, sweetheart,” he murmured, stepping closer. “Zac will be freed. No death penalty. No life sentence. He’ll be able to walk away, live his life. But there’s a catch.”

Anna’s throat tightened. Of course, there was a catch. There always was with men like him. But she was intrigued to know what it was.

Intrigued and extremely nervous. Especially after what he had made her do back in there. 

Victor took another leisurely sip of his whiskey before leveling her with a look so devoid of warmth that a shiver ran down her spine. “You can never see him again. Never speak to him. Never contact him in any way.”

Anna blinked, convinced she had misheard him. A dry, humorless laugh escaped her lips before she could stop it. “You’re joking.”
