If a witch wants to trap a demon or evil spirit possessing a victim, the witch can spill salt into a circle around the victim to create an area of protection that keeps the demon or evil spirit from attacking. With salt, the Devil’s trap is made with two triangles meeting each other inside the circle.
When ghosts were hunting the good people of New Orleans, Gwen and Bonnie used salt to encircle the ghost to prevent it from escaping. However, if a line of salt is broken by any means, the ghost can pass through it. Some ghosts can control the wind for the wind to sweep the salt line, likewise some demons.
The witches believe that one of the easiest ways to exorcise a demon or an evil spirit from a victim is with salt. They can force the victim’s mouth to be opened to pour salt into their mouth which will cause intense pain in the demon or evil spirit. They use this method when they want to torture the demon or evil spirit before they can finally exorcise them.
