“I don’t need an Aaron! I don’t bloody need anyone!” said a drunk Emily, downing another shot.
“That’s the spirit!” said Nathan, handing her another while downing one himself.
He would still sleep with her in a heartbeat, but she kept spitting out another dude’s name and the booze just seemed to make it worse. If she was anyone else, it probably wouldn’t matter, but damn those vulnerable gray eyes and the way they still stirred his heart. He didn’t do the whole denial thing. It was a waste of time. Would that he did though, because Nathan wanted more than anything not to acknowledge that he wanted more than to be Emily’s rebound guy.
“I’m the last guy to can the party, but I think you’re—”
Before he could finish, she started running. Nathan took a minute to deliberate, before he sighed, downed his last shot and went after her. He had to remember that he was on assignment. He went where she did until further notice.
