Chapter 71

Shantelle’s POV

“Why would you do that to yourself?” Mama asked immediately after I ushered her into the room. She didn’t hesitate to stand up from Papa’s arms.

“Why did he ask for you?” she asked as we were walking to his room. She didn’t waste time; this was how I knew Mama—she was always so curious about everything that was happening.

“Mama, when you get there, ask him,” I told Mama. I didn’t like how she was looking at me. I didn’t know if I should tell her what Reginald told me.

It wasn’t my place to do that…

Knowing my Mama, she wasn’t going to let it go; she would make sure she tried to find out what had happened to Reginald. It might not be now, but she would get to him, I was sure of that.

“Honey… see the way she is speaking to me,” Mama turned to Papa. This wasn’t even a big deal. It was funny to me because Mama was making an issue out of what wasn’t supposed to be an issue.

“Let it go, everyone is tense,” Papa said.
