I looked away from the billboard, somewhat distressed.
“Ami, it wasn’t my intention—”
“I know, Lai. That’s you. But you can’t help it, it’s in you. I’m glad you’re back, that’s good.” He smiled barely, without showing his teeth. My apologies were accepted, but I couldn’t help but feel that Ami’s gesture was condescending. “Come on, our door is almost the last one in this pavilion. We’d better wait as close as possible or we will have to wait in line to get on the plane.”
“Yes, of course. You guys go ahead, I want to buy something.”
I separated and returned to the free-shop shops in the hope of finding some nice souvenirs for Mirko and Sasha. I successfully dodged a group of tourists before they ran over me with their trolley suitcases (you’d think a guy my size doesn’t go unnoticed, but you could be very surprised) and managed to reach a clear area. After snooping here and there for a while, I decided on a stuffed animal for Sasha and an aviation history book
