Chapter 24
Seris’s POV
I jolted awake as icy water splashed across me. Blinded by the dim light, I squeezed my eyes shut against the shock.
“Wake up, you accursed mutt!” a guard snarled, slapping me across the face.
Blurry-eyed, I glowered at him. “You’ll die today,” he threatened.
A surge of power welled in me—anger, feral strength—my wolf snarled beneath the surface. I strained against the silver cuffs, wanting to tear him apart. But an invisible force bound me; the power drained as quickly as it had risen. My head lolled back, breath ragged.
The guard laughed and punched me, then stomped off, locking the cell door behind him. Darkness reclaimed me.
‘Seris?’ Eirwen trembled in my mind. ‘What just happened?’
‘I’m not sure,’ I gasped. My ribs burned. ‘Did you feel that power?’
‘Yes! I nearly snapped his bones,’ she trembled. ‘But I couldn’t release it.’
Before we could ponder further, the cell door swung open. Several guards entered,
