“Here you go,” I said, handing my credit card to the cashier. She nodded, swiped it, and waited. “Hurry up and pack it,” I urged, tapping my foot impatiently. She complied without a word, folding items into bags with swift efficiency.

I could barely stay still. I needed to get home to Seris—to see her face light up when she saw what I’d brought her. Over the time we’d spent together, she’d grown on me more than I’d ever expected.
