Seris’s POV
We were herded into a narrow ante-chamber, the two wolves at our flanks snarling as they shifted and pulled on human clothes. Moments later they stood fully human before us—sharp-featured, cold-eyed women—and ordered us to shift the same. No choice, I let the wolf inside me recede, our bodies reshaping until we were human again. Almost at once, coarse sacks were flung at us. I snatched mine and then knelt to dress Nessa, who trembled on the verge of tears. I tugged a simple tunic and trousers over her thin frame, handed her Moonbun to clutch for comfort, and brushed damp strands of hair from her forehead. Only then did I pull on my own scratchy garments, wincing as the fabric caught on healing cuts along my arms and legs.
