Chapter 24

I can’t sleep all night thinking about the fucking domino day. Dawn slowly breaks; I’m lying in bed with Sofia cuddled up to me. I manage to get her off me without waking her up, and I take a shower.

As the hot water pours down on me, I keep thinking about the girl lying on the floor of the fair, dead.

I dry off, get dressed, and go downstairs to make breakfast. When everything is ready, it’s time to wake up my sleeping beauty, but it’s not necessary. I see her coming into the kitchen, calm, she seems to have slept well, she looks fresh as a daisy. I’m surprised since last night she was much more affected, and besides being surprised, I’m worried. Strangely, she doesn’t even mention it.

I have to find security for her. I can’t forget.

“Sofia,” I call her as she is about to leave for school. “When you leave, go to the neighbor’s house.” She looks at me, surprised. “I have a domino game I can’t miss, and I prefer you not to be alone in the house. Please.”
