Chapter 23

I wake up in the daylight and smile as I realize I’m tucked in with a blanket. Sofia.

I take a quick shower and go down to the kitchen to prepare breakfast, but it is she who, with her back to me, is getting everything ready. My baby is proving to me, once again, that she is not my baby. Where did she learn how to cook? We have breakfast together; everything is delicious. I feel lucky to be with her, happy. I can’t take my eyes off her. She’s quite a little woman.

“Daddy” pulls me out of my thoughts. “Are you working today?”

It is at that moment that I realize that I finally have a day off.

“What do you say we go to the amusement park?” I say in response. Her squeal of delight makes me laugh. She hugs me and runs upstairs to her room to take a bath and get dressed. I wait for her while watching TV for a while. We look like a normal family, me waiting, lying in the living room, and her running around upstairs screaming and laughing.
