Chapter 97. New Powers And Old

Over the next few days, we watch as the Alphas from the other Gemstone Packs arrive. I call several times a day to check on Phoenix, but he assures me that Gretchen and Cinder are taking good care of him. After each call, I wait to speak to Cinder. There is something different about her. My once confident Beta is now swarming with anxiety. I don’t know if it has to do with her finding her mate or if it is something else, but I fear I am losing her.

“Do you want me to come home?” I blurt out.

Cinder scoffs loudly. “You don’t think I can handle it here on my own!”

“I never said that, Cinder,” I chide her. “You are just different.”

There is a long pause on the other end of the call. Her breath is unsteady, and I think she might be having a panic attack. “Percy wants to mark me.”
