Scarlett's POV

"I waited for you all through the night." Zachary spoke from behind, causing Scarlett's heart to sink in her stomach. She halted in her tracks and swiftly turned to face him, her eyes wide with fear. 

"How did you get in here?" She asked, her response gradually shifting from apprehension to rage. There was something about his presence that brought out her darker side. It might stem from the pain she bears even now due to his rejection and heartless behavior. 

Rather than responding to her question, he remarked, "You were absent from home last night." His haughty reply made her clench her teeth. 

"Well, what brings you to my home?" 

"Scarlett," he said, moving closer to her, but she retreated. She lacked the power to confront him, considering he was the Lycan king, and she also wished to avoid being near him; a part of her was his and would forever remain so, and she could not rely on herself to be in proximity.
