Book 2: Chapter 19
Ares caught up to Martina in the passage. He pulled her by the arm into an empty store room, his grip tightening as she winced in pain. He pinned her to the wall, hovering over her, and giving her no space to escape. His eyes blazed with anger, his voice low and menacing.
"What the hell do you think you are doing, walking out on me and speaking to me like that?"
Martina's eyes flashed with defiance, her voice husky. "I'm not afraid of you, Ares. I'm not one of your minions who tremble at your feet."
Ares's eyes narrowed, his jaw clenched in frustration. "You should be," he growled, his face inches from hers. "You should be very afraid."
Martina's eyes never left his, her gaze unwavering. "I am here to get the ledger, so instead of trying to ruin the plan. Why don't you run along and go be with that Sophie woman?"
Ares's eyes flashed with anger, his voice rising. "Why? So, you could go back to meet Antonio?"
