“I let Chris know I’ll be home soon. I just hope he understands,” Lara says, reading some documents related to the mafia world. She may have started learning about her wolf, but she still has a lot of work to do in the mafia world.
“Did he reply?” Carter asks, but Lara shakes her head.
“I’ll explain to him…”
“Explain what exactly?” Carter interrupts, raising an eyebrow.
“I mean, I’ll cook up a lie as usual. I’m sick of it. I want to stop lying to him and keeping secrets from him, but I don’t think that will happen soon.”
“Glad you know. Now continue with your work. We have no time to lose.”
She takes deep breaths before turning the doorknob to their home. Walking in gently, she sees Chris getting ready for work with a bandage wrapped around his hand. She rushes to him. “What happened to you?”
He pushes her away, his eyes cold. “Why the hell are you back? You could have stayed longer.”
